Fishing Reports

February 12, 2020

Lake Gogebic ice conditions and travel remain good with no recent amounts of snow. The bite has been slow the last 4-5 days with anglers reporting marks on vexlars rising to the bait and dropping back off again. The Walleye bite has been slow with some catching fish jigging in 27ft. to 32ft. depths and others still working shallow water in 9ft. to 14ft. with the best action coming during low light periods. The Perch bite has slowed with all the lookers and not so many takers! Some fair reports coming from 24ft. to 29ft. over the mud using wigglers and spikes for those willing to put in the time. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Lake Gogebic update. Travel conditions have improved to almost excellent and fishing has picked up as well. With low temps at night surface conditions have frozen allowing anglers to move around easily. Reports are of two layers of ice with the surface being good travel. Anglers are picking up both Perch and Walleye in 23ft. to 28ft. marking good numbers of fish with fair to good catch reports on both. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

January 2, 2020

Lake Gogebic has reports of a few more fishermen out on the ice. Not a lot of activity with some fair and some poor reports.
A few Perch are coming from 23ft. to 27ft. using wigglers and spikes including a few Walleye in the same depths. Some Walleye activity in 8ft. to 11ft. using sucker minnows on tip-ups and jigging rapalas and spoons mainly during morning or evening.
Ice travel remains poor with slush on top of the ice. Main travel routes are icing in better with lows in the teens at night. On the un- traveled areas expect fair travel if you can stay on top of the crusted snow, but beware if you break through as there is 6 to 10 inches of slush in most areas. Most ice thickness reports have been from 5 to 10 inches of ice.
Be cautious and check locally in any area you may be heading out. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort. 906-842-3361.

Lake Gogebic report…….Caution!!!!! Caution!!!!! Although ice fishermen have been fishing for over a month already extreme caution should be taken. Most fishermen have been staying in the bays or near shore with some good reports , even limits of walleye using sucker minnows and jigging spoons or rapalas. Early ice up followed by over 100 inches of snow has hampered ice thickness and created slush all over the lake. Expect 6 to 10 inches of slush on top of varied ice thickness. The main basin ice is always unpredictable and do not recommend travel. As always, yes there has been some travel but, NOT recommended!!!! I will update as any reports change or get confirmed information. Have a safe and happy holiday! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

Lake Gogebic report looks pretty good this week! Overall most anglers are catching some fish. Boats pulling boards over the mud are producing  some nice catches of quality size walleye suspended 6ft. to 17ft. down while others are using bottom bouncers and crawlers. Anglers are working the weeds in 6ft. to 11ft. using crawlers and leeches with good success on catches of walleye, perch and smallmouth keeping them busy. Best of Luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

June 2019

Lake Gogebic summer patterns are finally here. Weed growth is doing well and more stable summer weather has improved the fishing. Many anglers are trolling boards with stick baits targeting suspended walleye as some mayflies have begun to hatch. Also trolling crawlers over the mud has produced. Weed fishermen are using crawlers and leeches  for perch and walleye with good success. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

February 7, 2019

Lake Gogebic fishing report has been fair overall this week. Milder temps brought out anglers and some fish as well. Both Perch and Walleyes have been hitting with reports of marking lots of fish but not all are hitting. Walleye anglers are working 10ft. to 15ft. with best success during low light periods with others getting fish in 24ft. to 31ft. Perch anglers are working 21ft. to 28ft. with the same reports. Lots of recent snow with more in the forecast so snowmobile is recommended. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

January 15th , 2019

Lake Gogebic report has not changed much. Mild temps and  not much recent snow has once again allowed ATV travel in some areas, however snowmobile is recommended. Overall ice conditions and travel remain good. We have seen light angler activity, but good reports continue to come in. Walleye anglers are working jigs and tip ups with minnows in 12ft. to 16ft. and also in 24ft. to 28ft. Perch reports have been excellent for some with others marking lots of fish but not catching the finicky biters. Wigglers ,spikes and waxies worked in 23ft. to 29ft. has been the norm. best of luck Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

Dec 23rd, 2018

Lake Gogebic ice fishing is off to a good start. Early ice and little snowfall have made for some good conditions. Early ice anglers have been targeting walleye in the bays for some time now using sucker minnows with good success. Anglers are still working the same areas in 8 to 12 feet using tip ups and jigs. Others are moving deeper fishing 21 to 26ft. with good success. Not many reports on Perch just yet as anglers are just starting to work the deeper areas of the lake with wigglers and spikes. Expect ice thickness to vary from 4 to 12 inches with light snow cover allowing both snowmobiles and ATV`s to travel about. Reminder that reports are on angler activity and do not guarantee ice safety. Best of luck to all! Have a happy and safe holiday. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Nov 7th, 2018

Lake Gogebic has seen very few anglers out on the water. Mostly shore fishermen using sucker minnows catching some nice walleye. Others are casting stick baits mainly during low light conditions. Snow and cold is on its way this week. Grouse hunting has been fair with not much pressure as most target the month of October. Woodcock have moved on as they fly south. Light bow hunting activity with reports of the deer herd improving slowly. Bucks are definitely on the move starting to chase does and making scrapes. Cold, snow, bucks chasing, and the rut almost here has rifle hunters excited for the up coming opener on Nov. 15th.

Ice fishermen are always excited for the approaching season. Remember the big lake ice will not freeze the same all over, as they begin fishing the bays the main lake ice may shift about before freezing again. BE SAFE!!!!! Check locally anytime before heading out. Due to these rapidly changing conditions at this time of year I will not be writing reports again until about Christmas time when we can expect safe travel about the lake with weather permitting. Be safe out there! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Oct 18th, 2018

Lake Gogebic fall report has improved. Shore anglers are reporting some nice catches of walleye using minnows while others have had good success trolling stick baits over the mud. Good numbers of northern pike are also in the mix. Cold windy weather with snow mixed in continues to hamper those out on the water. Recent snow has brought down most of the leaves now and better reports coming in from grouse hunters in the area. Woodcock numbers have been up with flight birds passing thru and many hunters getting a limit. Best of luck in the woods and on the water. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Oct 11th, 2018

Lake Gogebic report has not changed. Fishing continues to be slow. Anglers are mainly working jig and minnow combos now or minnows below slip bobbers targeting walleye. Constant rain and bad weather continues  day after day with 4 inches in the last few days. This has made it tough for both fishermen and grouse hunters. The fall colors are at about peak right now. Best of luck in the woods and on the water! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Oct 3rd, 2018

Lake Gogebic early fall fishing report has been very slow. The few anglers that have been out continue to struggle. Most are using jig and minnow combos now and some are trolling or casting stick baits. The best reports are coming from weeds and weed edges during low light conditions. Some continue to search for perch in the weeds using night crawlers. Water temps have dropped to the low 50`s and fall colors are at 50%. Grouse hunters are reporting low flush rates and a lot of leaves on the trees yet. Best of luck to all! Barry (bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Aug 31st, 2018

Lake Gogebic fishing is on the upswing this week. Anglers reporting better catches of perch using crawlers in the weeds and even some coming from those trolling the mud flats. The walleye bite has improved as well using leeches in the weeds and weed edges and trolling crawlers over the mud. Minnows will begin to be part of anglers tactics with temps beginning to cool down at night with lows in the 40`s and 50`s bringing the water temp down.

Reminder, the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce annual fall walleye fishing tournament will be held  Sept. 7th and 8th.

Best of luck to all! Have a safe holiday weekend. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

+Lake Gogebic report remains slow overall. Anglers are working weeds with leeches, trolling crawler rigs over the mud, and using boards and stick baits for walleye with limited success. A few perch are hitting crawlers in the weeds. Smallmouth are providing the best action using crawlers leeches and artificials.

From the woods, the chokecherries, blueberries and blackberries have all pretty much ripened and are nearing the end. Grouse numbers are looking low, but may be to early to tell with all the tall grass and leaves for them to hide. Bear numbers are looking good with baiting season underway and hitting the baits consistently.

Best of luck in the woods and on the water! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

Perch are taking crawlers in weeds near 9ft. to 12ft. Smallmouth continue to provide some fun working the rocks and the weeds Overall an average August pattern. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

August 1st, 2018

Lake Gogebic report is fair. Perch are hitting crawlers in the weeds at 9ft. to 11ft. walleye are taking leeches in the same areas with other reports coming from 26 to 28ft. Smallmouth are still active working any hard bottom areas using live bait, twister tails or stick baits. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

July 18th, 2018

Lake Gogebic report has improved lots! Over last week. Mayflies seem to have let up and fishing overall is much better. Walleye are hitting crawlers and leeches in 18 to 25ft trolling, drifting or slip bobbers along with some perch in those same depths. Perch, walleye and bass are also coming from 8 to 12ft. in the weeds and weed edges. Smallmouth continue to come from any rocky hard bottom areas as well. Lake Gogebic report has gone from hot to not! Mayflies continue to hatch daily and anglers are struggling. Reports range from a few perch here a smallmouth there an occasional walleye or northern with no set pattern. A few better reports coming from anglers trolling crawlers on bottom bouncers in deep water. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

July 5th , 2018

Lake Gogebic reports perch action is heating up! Anglers working crawlers in 10ft. to 12ft. depths near the weeds and also reports coming from 18ft. to 20ft. Walleye action has been slow with continued mayfly hatches. Some smallmouth activity from anglers working the hard bottom areas. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

June 27th, 2018

+Lake Gogebic report is improving this week. Mainly the perch bite has picked up with anglers boating some nice! Fish working weeds and weed edges in 9ft. to 12ft. using crawlers. Smallmouth action has also improved working hard bottom areas and weed edges also. Walleye action has still been on the slow side with the better reports coming from anglers using crawlers and leeches working 12ft. to 18ft. and crawlers over the mud. Best of Luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

JUNE 20th, 2018

Lake Gogebic report is slow this week . Overall more of a storm report. Heavy rain and storms have caused flooding in many areas with lake levels rising quickly causing lots of floating debris, so be careful. The high turbid water has not helped the fishing. A few nice walleye coming from anglers working boards over the main lake basin with a few coming from 20ft. depths using leeches. A few smallmouth are hitting in hard bottom rocky areas as they begin to feed on crayfish. Perch has been slow with crawlers in the weeds working best, but the weeds are still a bit behind for this time of year. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

June 13, 2018

Lake Gogebic report is fair. Anglers are struggling as the bite has been very fickle. We finally got rid of the east wind which could bring back more of a stable pattern. Leeches have been working best for walleye with most targeting 16ft. to 20ft. but most are running small. Smallmouth continue to provide fair action near hard bottom areas and some nice perch beginning to come from the weeds in 9ft. to 13ft. using crawlers. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

7th , 2018

Lake Gogebic report improved some this week to fair. Walleye anglers are working hard for the fish, but it is better than last week. They continue to work crawlers, minnows and leeches as the weather has been cold, hot, windy, and calm all in the same week! Smallmouth are still hanging on near shore for some added action. Perch has been a bit better with the weeds beginning to show up, but most are still scattered. Crawlers have been working the best for the perch. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

June 1st, 2018

Lake Gogebic walleye report has been very slow this week. Wide temp swings and changing weather fronts have kept anglers searching for them. Some are still using minnows as others have found leeches and crawlers are coming into play quickly with the warming water temps. Smallmouth bass however has been fantastic with fish moving up onto the beds and providing great action. Jigs, twister tails, stick baits , live bait and flies have all been taking fish. Cooler temps today may push them back a bit but this will only prolong the spawn and make for extended good fishing for them. We have only seen a few perch come in using crawlers and leeches but no set pattern yet. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

MAY 24th, 2018

Lake Gogebic report has been up and down since the opener. Some great catches of walleye one day and not so good the next. May be due to the wind direction that kept changing all week. Anglers are working jig and minnows or leeches in 15 to 18ft. Also 6 to 12 ft. during low light conditions. Northerns are hitting minnows  on a regular basis but most are running small. A few nice perch but they seem to be widely dispersed as far as depth. Warm temps should keep bringing water temps up to bring the smallies into shore soon for the up coming bass opener on sat. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

May 16th 2018

Lake Gogebic opener was record setting! Not more than a week ago there was ice on the lake yet! Opening day was 70 degrees and sunny with light winds. Walleye action was great! Most anglers doing well were working 12ft. to 18ft. using jig and minnow combos, fuzzy grubs, and twister tails. These depths were producing lots of fish in the 16 inch to 19 inch range while shallower depths seen a few more throw backs with more of the smaller males. Reports of a lot of small northern pike and some very nice catch and release smallmouth. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

May 2nd, 2018

Lake Gogebic ice report. There has been no angler activity. Snow is off the surface and the few days of 70 degrees has darkened the surface and it has started to honeycomb, shoreline areas have begun to open up mainly near any inlets. DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY TRAVEL!!!! Will keep you posted as to when the main lake ice opens up. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

April 25th, 2018

Lake Gogebic reports a good 2ft. of ice and the few anglers that have been out are reporting nice catches of jumbo perch. Angler activity has been very light. Surface conditions still has snow on it so with warmer temps or some light rain conditions could get very wet. Be safe and stay away from any inlets. REMEMBER! These reports are of angler activity and are not a guarantee of ice safety!  Late ice conditions can change quickly.

Lake Gogebic ice update. We are still in winter mode with 20 to 24 inches of ice. Snowmobile travel only with recent heavy snow expect 2 feet or more of snow on the ice. Mild daytime temps are forecast to be 40 to 50 degrees so expect slush and wet snow conditions. Shorelines are holding up well but still use caution near any inlets and remember conditions can change quickly! If not we may be ice fishing for the opener! Angler activity is at or near zero so no reports for you. Be safe! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

April 9th 2018

Lake Gogebic report has not changed. Winter like weather has kept ice thickness about 2 feet with 4 to 10 inches of snow on top. Even below zero temps this week at night and single digits have kept the lake locked up tight. Travel conditions are good but angler activity is near zero. Reminder annual fishing lic. Expire on March 31st so remember to get your new lic. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

March 29th, 2018

Lake Gogebic ice conditions are holding up well with reports of some nice perch hitting the ice. Expect 20 to 24 inches of ice with snow cover on top. With mid day temps in the 20`s and lows in the single digits which should keep conditions stable. If temps warm into the 30`s to 40 during the day expect wet conditions from the remaining snow cover. Perch anglers are working 26ft. to 29ft. with some very good reports and a few slow reports mixed in using wigglers and spikes. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

March 17th, 2018

Lake Gogebic ice report and travel conditions are good. Current night temps are dipping into the teens making travel in the mornings very good. If we begin to see warmer temps during the day conditions may get wet and slushy by late day as there is a lot of snow on the ice yet. Walleye season is now closed, but anglers continue to target the Perch working wigglers in 23ft. to 29ft. over the mud. Success continues to be fair overall with some slow reports and some good reports. We have seen some very nice jumbo`s on the ice but not consistent. As late ice conditions can change quickly please be safe and also check locally where you are heading out. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Feb 28th, 2018

Lake Gogebic report has improved slowly this week. The past few weeks anglers that did locate fish found it hard to get them to do anything but bump the bait. Early this week seen a few better reports coming in mainly for the perch everyone has been waiting for. Anglers working wigglers and spikes in 25ft. to 29ft. are seeing  some better action, but it is spotty. Walleye continue to provide some action using sucker minnows and jigging baits working 16ft. to 20ft. and also in the same 25ft. to 29ft. that the perch anglers are working.

Lake conditions are good using snowmobile. Recent heavy snow will cause some difficult travel in areas for those using ATV`s. Weather forecast shows highs in the 30`s with lows in the teens. Expect that conditions may be nice and firm in the mornings and soft to wet conditions by the afternoon.

Best of luck to all! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Feb 15th, 2018

Lake Gogebic report is very slow this week. Anglers are catching a few Walleye on sucker minnows and jigging 21ft. to 28ft. perch continues to be mixed reports but overall very slow. Anglers working wigglers in 20ft. to 26ft. are marking fish in some areas but having a difficult time getting them to bite. Ice and travel conditions remain good using snowmobile. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Feb 2nd, 2018

Lake Gogebic report has improved some this past week. Walleye anglers are reporting better catches. The 10ft. to 16ft. depths during low light are producing on sucker minnows using tip ups. Others jigging rapalas and spoons. Some walleye action in 24ft. to 28ft. while anglers search for Perch. Perch action continues to be slow overall with only a few good reports using wigglers. Ice travel and conditions remain good using snowmobile. Good luck to all! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Jan 22nd, 2018

Lake Gogebic report remains slow to fair at best. Walleye seem to be getting the best reports but still slow with a lot of bumps and misses. Perch action has been quiet as well with reports of raising fish but difficulty in getting them to bite.

Walleye anglers are fishing 10ft. to 16ft. during low light conditions and working the deeper water in 23ft. to 30ft. using sucker minnows and jigging raps. Some have downsized the minnows to fatheads trying to prevent the numbers of fish dragging out 3 to 4ft. of line on the tip-ups and dropping the bait.

Perch anglers working the mud in 20ft. to 24ft. and 27ft. to 30ft. marking fish but few takers. Wigglers and spikes have been the preferred bait.

Mild temps had anglers reporting slush near the end of the day but conditions firmed up at night. More snow is on its way today and Tue. With cooler temps. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Jan 19th, 2018

Lake Gogebic report has not changed. Reports  for both Perch and Walleye have been slow to fair. Most anglers reporting a very light bite or marking fish with no takers. They continue to work the mud in a wide range from 21ft. to 29ft. Lake and ice conditions have been good with travel by snowmobile the best. Good luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

Jan 12th , 2018

Lake Gogebic report has been up and down this past week with an overall report of fair. When temps warmed up we had some good reports on walleye in 16ft. to 18ft. and also in 23ft. to 26ft. using suckers and fatheads. Perch report has been slow to fair with hit and miss catches. Anglers using wigglers and spikes have been marking fish in 23ft. to 25ft. with mostly lookers and a few nice perch coming in.

Snow and cold has once again moved in with lake travel best by snowmobile. ATV travel will be limited to hard packed areas in some places, but not recommended. Overall ice conditions and travel are good.

Good luck and stay warm! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.

Jan, 4th 2018

Lake Gogebic report has been cold! Brrrrr! Bitter cold temps have not kept anglers off the ice. Overall the bite has been slow with anglers reporting lookers, not takers and light bites. Anglers have now been working the deep mud flats in the lake for perch and walleye using wigglers and sucker minnows. Others continue to work shallow depths mainly for walleye and northern with low light periods being best for the walleye. Lake travel has been good for ATV`s in most areas of the lake and snowmobiles having no problems at all. Expect some slush in pockets and bumpy travel in areas that machines passed over and slush froze up quickly with the cold temps. The weekend forecast shows some more tolerable temps. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
