Lake Gogebic report has been great. Some good reports on walleye in 10ft. to 12ft. using sucker minnows. Others still working 20ft. to 26ft. depths for both perch and walleye with good success using suckers and jigging rapalas. Perch are hitting wigglers and spikes in the same depths.Weather has been fantastic for fishing with mild temps. Lake travel is still best with snowmobiles as slush will be a factor due to the mild weather predicted thru the weekend. Best of luck Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
Jan 12th, 2017
Lake Gogebic report has remained about the same. Fair to good catches of both walleye and perch coming from 20ft. to 26ft. Cold below zero temps have returned this week once again. The bite seemed to hold out pretty well thru our last cold snap so hope it does once again! Heavy snow here the last three days will limit travel to snowmobiles only. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
Jan 4th, 2017
Lake Gogebic conditions are good overall. With 10 inches plus of ice all over the lake. Anglers are using atv`s and snowmobiles. There are parts of the lake that have slush under the snow and atv travel will be difficult. Snowmobiles will be best. The bite has slowed up in the 10ft. areas with most action coming during low light conditions. Most anglers are moving deeper with good success in 20ft. to 24ft. using wigglers for perch and sucker minnows and rapalas for the walleye. A cold front with snow began moving in yesterday with a low of 10 below by tomorrow with anglers currently reporting a very tough bite. Marking fish but they are being very fickle. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
Dec 28th, 2016
Lake Gogebic fishing has been great. A bit of a slow down when temps dipped into the teens after the 35 degree weather but expect it to respond back quickly with stable temps once again. Ice conditions vary with 8 to 12 inches in the bays and 6 to 10 inches on the main lake. Slush has mostly turned to ice with the colder temps so areas are icy. Some slushy areas have frozen over but you may break thru the top layer in some areas. Walleye bite has been fantastic in 7 to 11 feet using sucker minnows and jigging raps. Some perch have been picked up in the same areas in the bays with anglers beginning to fish the mud flats. Not a lot of perch reports yet in those areas. Anglers are using wigglers and spikes. Best of luck and have a happy new year! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
Dec 23rd, 2016
Lake Gogebic fishing activity has been light but some good reports. Ice conditions have been fair with not a lot of snow on top yet. Ice reports are from 5 inches to 8 inches in most areas. We have not seen a lot of travel out there yet but expect that to change in a few days as holiday anglers and snowmobilers arrive in the area. Walleye reports have been in 4ft. to 10ft. and 14ft. to 18ft using sucker minnows and jigging rapalas. No reports on perch yet. Have a happy and safe holiday! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Nov 12th, 2017
Lake Gogebic report has been fantastic! Limits of nice sized walleye continue to come in. Angler activity has been light for boat activity, but shore anglers account for most of the reports. Anglers are using minnows and stick baits worked from shore and in the weeds throughout the day with good success, but most are concentrating on the evening bite.
Hunters are getting excited for the upcoming rifle opener for deer on Tue. Nov. 15th with the bucks still chasing does! Good luck to all! And think snow.
Note that my regular reports will lapse until about just before the holidays. So as first ice approaches please be safe and check locally before you venture out. Regular reports will resume when safe ice travel is here with anglers out and about. Everyone is hoping for better conditions than we had with the ice last year at that time. Be safe! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

Lake Gogebic report has been good. Walleye and smallmouth have been providing good action. Minnows have been the bait of choice worked on weed edges and steep breaks. Shore anglers continue to have success during low light conditions using sucker minnows and stick baits. Grouse hunting has been fair with woodcock numbers dropping as the migrating birds move on. Best of luck in the woods and on the water Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Oct 20th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report has improved slightly. Walleye action has picked up a bit with anglers using mainly minnows now working the weeds in 4ft. to 10ft. doing the best. Others working sucker minnows and stick baits from shore are seeing some better action during low light conditions.
Grouse hunters continue to find birds scattered mainly due to green vegetation that has not been knocked down by heavy frost yet. Birds have not moved to the traditional food sources for this time of season creating less concentration in the normal areas. Woodcock numbers have been great with flight birds continuing to stay in the area.

Oct 13th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report is fair. Best reports have come from 4ft. to 10ft. in the weeds and shore anglers using minnows during low light conditions. Some reporting success drifting or jigging minnows or crawlers over the mud in the main basin and working steep breaks from 16ft. to 24ft. Colder temps have arrived to help drop that water temp. Grouse hunters reporting fair flush rates, but birds are not everywhere and need to keep on the move to locate pockets holding birds. Woodcock numbers have been good with flight birds coming thru. Fall colors are still with us, but past peak now with leaves beginning to drop. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Oct 5th , 2016
Lake Gogebic report is fair. Mixed reports from poor to great. Anglers are still using crawlers and leeches over the mud flats and in the weeds. Some good reports from anglers trolling stick baits as well. The transition to the minnow bite has been slow this year mainly due to warm temps. Some using minnows have reported good catches as well mainly in the weeds and from shore. Grouse hunting has been slow mainly due to the leaves and ground cover being to thick yet. We have seen some very good flush rates so far with limited shots due to thick cover. Over all the bird numbers seem to be down from last year. Fall colors are at about 80%. Best of luck in the woods and on the water. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
Sept 21st, 2016
Lake Gogebic reports are improving with the change of the seasons. Perch, Walleye and Bass continue to hit both crawlers and leeches. Many are using minnows also which is more common for this time of year. Anglers are working the weeds and weed edges along with the mud flats. Over all the bite is improving. Bear season is off to a good start with some nice bears taken. Grouse season has begun with light hunting pressure and few reports, but lots of leaves up yet. Fall colors are just starting to come in. Best of luck in the woods and on the water! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

Lake Gogebic fishing remains very slow. Anglers continue to use crawlers, leeches and minnows. Some of the best reports have come from anglers working the mud with crawler harness`s and those using leeches in the weed edges. Water surface temps have dropped about 10 degrees in the past week so that should be a good start for the fishing to improve. We got hit with very heavy rain again for the last 3 days. Reminder that the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce fall fishing tourney is Sept. 9,10 and 11th. Good luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
August 31st, 2016
Lake Gogebic reports continue to be very slow. A few isolated excellent reports, but few and far between. Anglers working leeches in the weeds and weed edges have had some good success while others trolling crawlers over the mud have also done well. Smallmouth continue to provide some action near hard bottom areas and steep breaks. Best of luck! and have a safe holiday weekend! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361

Lake Gogebic fishing remains slow. A few perch reports coming from the weeds in 8ft. to 10ft. Walleye action has been very unpredictable with best reports coming from deep weed edges and anglers trolling stick baits in 21ft. to 26ft. over the mud. Smallmouth have been fairly active and continue to hit leeches and crawlers. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort

Walleye and bass continue to feed on the young of year crayfish in hard bottom areas. Live bait and crawfish colored artificials are working well. Lake Gogebic report has been excellent! Despite continued mayfly hatches the bite has been great! Jumbo Perch and Walleye along with some Smallmouth are hitting leeches and crawlers near the weeds in 6ft. to 10ft. Anglers drifting and trolling crawlers in 18ft. to 22ft. have also produced some great catches.Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
June 29th, 2016
Lake Gogebic anglers reporting good catches of walleye in 6ft to 10ft. using leeches. Perch are taking leeches and crawlers in the same depths. Others have had good success drifting crawler harness`s in 18ft to 21ft.for both perch and walleye. Mayflies continue to hatch on and off along with weather fronts coming thru early in the week, but weather patterns seem to be returning back to more normal once again. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
June 22nd, 2016
Lake Gogebic fishing has been slow for some but great for others. I guess that is normal, but translates into a fair report. Anglers trolling or drifting 18ft to 22ft using stick baits and crawler harness are producing fair catches of walleye. Others working weeds in 5ft to9ft using crawlers, leeches and casting stick baits are producing walleye, bass, and perch. The perch bite has been slow, but seems to be improving each day. Mayflies have begun to hatch early this week and continued weather fronts have plagued us with bad fronts and wind keeping the fish reports up and down from day to day. Forecast shows a bit more stable weather to come? Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
June 15th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report continues to go up and down mostly due to weather. The Walleye bite has been fair with good reports using minnows and leeches in 6ft. to 10ft. in the weeds. Anglers also producing in 20ft. depths drifting live bait and trolling stick baits. The smallmouth are nearing the end of spawn with a few fish still coming in from shoreline areas. The Perch bite has just began to improve with some nice fish coming from 9ft. to 12ft. using crawlers. Best of luck Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Lake Gogebic fishing has been a roller coaster ride this week! Fishing went from fantastic to poor overnight when the cold temps arrived. Bass had moved up on the beds for two days with great fishing and then shut off. The walleye bite also stalled. Warmer temps have arrived with continued normal temps for the weekend. The fish should respond to the change and hopefully pick back up. Anglers are still catching fish, but it has been tough. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
May 26th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report has been good. Anglers continue to work minnows and leeches from 4ft. to 25ft. in a wide range with reports coming from all depths. The shallow bite is more low light conditions. The weed growth is greening up nicely, so many anglers are beginning to fish them as well. Some nice smallmouth are being caught (catch and release only). The bass opener is sat. and warm temps should be moving them closer to spawning and some great fishing to come. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
May 18th , 2016
Lake Gogebic opener was great! Many anglers catching limits of Walleye.Colder temps and wind the first few days proved to be a little better fishing. Minnows and leeches have been the best baits. Anglers reporting catching fish from 4ft. to 25ft. A very wide range, but the fish are scattered throughout. The weather has warmed up to near 70 and light winds which is nice, but the bite has slowed up some from the opener. Most still reporting fair catches, just a little tougher bite. Everyone is very happy with the new size limit and coming in with fish every day! Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
May 12th, 2016
Lake Gogebic opener is only a few days away! The ice has been off for some time so the walleyes have been done spawning as well. Warm temps have brought out the black flies in force! Temps and weather are in for a change by the weekend. Snow is even in the forecast with high winds, yes I said snow! We hope the weather man is wrong. Because of warmer water temps for the opener expect anglers to be using a wide range of bait, from the standard minnow bite to leeches and crawlers. The low light bite should still be good in the shallow areas with many anglers working the deeper breaks near shore. Only time will tell. Will give a update once the season is open and reports begin to come in. Reminder on Walleye size limit, 5 walleye with 2 fish allowed between 13 inches and 15 inches. Another reg. change for this season is 5 Bass (when the season opens) and 2 Northern. They no longer have to be combined. Best of luck to all and be safe! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
March 17th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report. NO TRAVEL! Recent rain before the snow has weakened the ice and snow cover has now covered the danger areas near shore where the shorelines are getting bad. The slush and snow now on the ice will weaken the good ice we did have on the main lake. Best to stay off!!!! We all here at Lake Gogebic look forward to your return on May 15th For the Walleye opener. Thanks for a great season while it lasted. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
March 15th, 2016
Lake Gogebic ice reports have been good. Walleye and perch action have both been very good. The cloudy weather and little rain has kept ice anglers active. Reports of 8 inches of good clear ice with foot and ATV travel still good. Some shoreline areas are getting worse. WARNING!!! These conditions can change very quickly! Ok now but maybe not the next day! Weather will determine how quickly it goes bad. Reports do not guarantee ice safety! Please check locally before heading out. Today Tue. March 15th. Is the last day of Walleye season. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
March 9th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report and conditions are fair. Walleye have been hitting sucker minnows in 22ft. to 28ft. with fair to good reports. Perch anglers are reporting hit and miss results from the same depths using wigglers with both good and bad reports. Ice conditions are good even allowing atv travel in most areas. Expect 12 inches of good ice in most areas. Reminder that these reports are of angler activity and do not guarantee ice safety, so use caution. Mild temps are in the forecast starting Friday with highs near 60! And into the weekend with warm temps and then chance of rain. Caution! With only half of our normal ice depths at this time of year conditions may change very quickly!!!!!! This could possibly be the last weekend of ice travel if the warm temps hang on. Be safe ! and good luck. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
Feb 26th , 2016
Lake Gogebic ice and travel conditions have been better since the warm temps. Snowpack has melted down and re-froze so conditions are slick. Some areas have a crusted shell on top with slush below in the less traveled areas. With varied temps lately expect possible wet conditions during the day and cooler temps to firm things back up at night. Some snow is forecast this next week which will help with the slick conditions.
Angler activity has still been light but will pick up soon as perch anglers will target the month of March. Reminder that Walleye season will close on March 15th.
Perch anglers are targeting 20ft. to 28ft. with best reports coming from 24ft. to 26ft. using wigglers and spikes. Walleye are hitting sucker minnows and jigging baits in 24ft. to 28ft. and 9ft. to 12ft. The best action has come during low light conditions. Most reports have remained slow. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361.
Feb 19th , 2016
Lake Gogebic report has not changed. Very few anglers out and the bite has still been very slow. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Feb 11th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report has been very slow. Angler activity has also been very slow. Only limited reports on Walleye in 24ft. to 28ft. and the 9ft. to 12ft. range. Perch anglers continue to target the mud in 21ft. to 28ft. using wigglers with poor reports. Lots of snow on the ice so watch for slush in the less traveled areas. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Feb 5th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report has walleye action at fair. Very mixed reports with only a few being good. Jigging baits and sucker minnows on tip ups are producing some fish in 22ft. to 26ft. Also some low light bite in 9ft. to 12ft. Perch anglers continue to work 20ft. to 28ft. using wigglers, but reports have been poor. Ice travel has been by snowmobile only as we have had several feet of snow this past week. Watch for slush throughout the lake in less traveled areas. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Jan 20th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report has been slow. Cold temps kept anglers off the ice and the bite very tough. Milder temps are now in the forecast. Ice conditions are now fair to good throughout the lake, but slush has been a problem in many areas. Snowmobiles are now the best way to travel. The best Walleye bite has been in 12 feet and about 20feet. Perch action has been slow, but best reports have been in 24ft. to 28ft. best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Jan 13th , 2016
Lake Gogebic report has been slow this week. Very few anglers out, mostly due to cold temps? Snowmobile has been best for travel with added snow depths and some slush in areas. Ice depths remain good in the bays and near shore. Anglers are working deeper depths with reports of less ice out in the main lake, so use caution and check locally about current conditions. Walleye action has been best in 9ft. to 12ft. and also 18ft. to 24ft. Perch have been caught in a wide range from 12ft. to 26ft. with no definite hot spots. Bitter cold temps are predicted to warm up by this weekend so maybe the bite will warm up too! Best of luck Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Jan 7th, 2016
Lake Gogebic report has been good for both Perch and Walleye. Anglers working 6ft. to 10 ft. and 20ft. to 26ft. have both been producing some nice Perch using wigglers and spikes. Walleye have been hitting sucker minnows on tip ups and jigging spoons or Rapalas. Walleye anglers are fishing the 6ft. to 10ft. depths mostly during low light conditions and producing some nice catches from 18ft. to 24ft. Ice travel has been good with not much snow. The last few days has seen some water seeping up thru any cracks so watch for some slushy areas. Ice depths range from 4inches to 10 inches with the thicker ice being on the bays and less ice on the main lake basin so use caution. Best of luck! Barry (Bear) Drews at bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Jan 2nd, 2016
Lake Gogebic report has been fair. The bite has slowed up a bit from what it was, but some are still reporting great action. It has just been a little more wide spread with good reports. Anglers continue to work 5ft. to 8ft. for walleye and some perch. Others are beginning to work 20ft. to 26ft. for both. Sucker minnows and jigging spoons and rapalas for walleye and small jigs tipped with wigglers or spikes are taking some perch. Ice conditions are very good. With 6inches to 8 inches of good ice and only about 10 inches of snow has made for good travel for both snowmobile and atv. Reminder on the new walleye regs. Two fish between 13 inches and 15 inches with the remaining 3 of five must be over 15 inches. Good luck! and Happy New Year! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Dec 26th, 2015
Lake Gogebic update! The last couple nights with cold temps and no snow on the ice has done its job. Currently it is snowing and predicted for the rest of the day. Reports of 4 to 6 inches of ice on the bays has anglers producing great catches of keeper walleye. Jigging rapalas and using sucker minnows in 4 to 8ft. of water. Be safe! And have a happy new year! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Dec. 24th, 2015
Lake Gogebic ice report is just beginning! Lake ice has skimmed over several times but broken up again due to mild temps. Currently it has just been froze over for a few days and looks like it will stay. Colder temps are forecast for this week and we only have a few inches of snow so hopefully the ice will continue to improve. Ice travel is not recommended! First ice can be very dangerous! As always I will report conditions now that we have ice. We hope to resume some fishing activity very soon! Be safe and have a blessed holiday season. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
Nov. 21, 2015
Lake Gogebic report has been good for shore anglers taking advantage of open water yet. Sucker minnows or casting stick baits has been producing nice walleye. Angler pressure has been very light. The cold and snow has finally arrived so ice should not be too far off. As always I will not be writing regular reports again until around Christmas when we should have safe ice travel around the lake. Early ice can be very dangerous and unpredictable in different areas of the lake. Please check locally when that time comes for current conditions in your area. Be safe! And have a great holiday season! Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
New Walleye Fishing Regulation on Lake Gogebic
The legislation changing the walleye size limit on Lake Gogebic passed and begins today. Five (5) walleye daily limit and two (2) can be 13-15 inches.
Sept 17th, 2015
Lake Gogebic fishing has remained slow. Unseasonable warm temps have stalled out the fall bite. Many anglers are using crawlers and leeches instead of minnows. Smallmouth and walleye have been the most active fish. Most continue to target 7ft. to 11ft. weeds and weed edges. Anglers running baits over mud in 24ft. to 27ft. have also had some success. Best of luck and hope more normal temps will return. Barry (Bear) Drews at Bear`s Nine Pines Resort 906-842-3361
